Spice and rice nice partners for Welsh lamb

WELSH lamb met Indian spice and pilau rice in Aberystwyth when shoppers were offered a free taste of a warming lamb keema and vegetable ra-ra on a cold Saturday.

Bangladesh-born restaurateur Mike Ahmed and his chefs from the Royal Pier Tandoori soon drew the crowds and they are active participants in the month – long Indian Food Festival held in Aberystwyth throughout February and which has Welsh Lamb among its sponsors.

Master classes in Indian cookery, traditional Indian banquets complete with dancers, wine tastings, a curry competition and Indian films have proved so popular in this unlikely setting that the festival, now in its second year, is set to be an annual event.

The tasty minced lamb keema mixed with pilau rice and served with a vegetable ra-ra – described as hot, sweet, sour and spicy, was a hit with shoppers in Aberystwyth.
