Split grain levels low

CONCERN over split grains, pre-germination in the ear and fusarium in spring barleys has been largely unfounded, says SACs Fiona Burnett.

"Initial reports from Midlothian werent encouraging, but results from other areas suggest levels are well below growers fears. Speaking to maltsters, quality issues are manageable."

Perth-based Meade Thoms Jim Warnock echoes that. "The ears were not sufficiently filled because of lack of sun so there has been little chance of splitting." &#42
