Spring go-ahead for uplands scheme

PLANS for a rural initiative in the Southern Uplands of Scotland will get the go-ahead in the spring, according to The Herald.

The Southern Uplands Initiative aims to be a forum for land use issues across one-sixth of Scotland, and is seeking £30,000 of core funding.

It will focus on sustainable land use and integrated planning and policy.

The scheme also aims to link local partnerships, reduce the potential for planning conflicts, and look at the more effective use of resources.

Its supporters include Scottish Natural Heritage, the Scottish National Farmers Union and one of Scotlands biggest landowners, Buccleuch Estates.
