Spud area falling

POTATO plantings are down by 3,000ha (7400 acres), according to the British Potato Council. The British crop is estimated at 137,500ha (340,000 acres), compared to 140,474ha (347,000 acres) in 1997 and 152,665ha (373,000 acres) in 1996.
