THE British Potato Council has estimated that the total stocks in Great Britain at the end of February were down considerably on 1998 stocks.

A total 2.123 million tonnes were expected to be remaining in store compared with 2.516 million tonnes last year.

Total utilisation of home grown potatoes, excluding imports, for the period June to the end of February is 2.8% below the average of the previous four years at 4.375 million tonnes.
