Square baler debutants

IT WAS first time out at Grassland for a number of new or improved big square balers, and Vicon marked its return to the sector by demonstrating the LB12100.

McCormick emphasised its move into harvest products by demonstrating two of the three big square balers that make up its LB Series.

These balers have previously appeared in Fortschritt, Mengele and Case-IH colours.

But a number of improvements have been made to the machines, which were acquired from CNH by McCormick associate company Laverda.

Changes include fitting a torque limiter in place of shear bolts to protect the shaft and gear driveline; using shorter but thicker tines to improve pick-up performance; and regulating flow of material into the pre-compression chamber to prevent overload and cut the amount of stress on the assembly.

Supertino big square balers from Italy made their UK debut on the stand of importer K&K Whistance. There are two SR models, making bales 120cm wide, either 60cm or 70cm deep. &#42
