Squatting could be Mugabes lifeline
ALLOWING former guerrillas to occupy white-owned farms could provide an electoral lifeline to Zimbabwes embattled prime minister Robert Mugabe.
The Financial Times reports that Mr Mugabes land redistribution pledge has a populist appeal to overcrowded peasant farmers.
By Tuesday (29 February), 27 farms had been invaded with ministers making no effort to intervene
Mr Mugabe was defeated in last months constitutional referendum, which would have opened the door on the official seizure of white-owned farms.
Parliamentary elections are being held in April.
