Step nearer a rotaviruscure?
ONE Lancashire producer reckons he has hit upon a cure for rotavirus.
Tim Edwards runs 15 suckler cows and followers at 28ha (70-acre) Mere Farm, Brow, Preston. Since December he has lost six calves from rotavirus. "It cost a fortune in vets bills but we still couldnt beat it," he says.
He believes he brought in rotavirus with a batch of calves from market and says he was at desperation point until a friend recommended a special feed supplement – Nutra D. He offered it to one surviving twin calf, both of which had contracted rotavirus.
"By night-time that calf was chasing the cow for milk," he says.
lNutra D is marketed by Denkavit and is recommended for use alongside veterinary treatment. One feed of 20g is said to be effective in four to six hours. Cost is £14/100g tub. *
