Stewardship deadline this month

ENGLISH Nature and the National Farmers Union are reminding farmers the deadline for applications to the Countryside Stewardship Scheme is 31 May.

This year there is 16 million available for the scheme, which targets the conservation and improvement of some key English wildlife and landscapes.

But with the deadline approaching there is some concern that if the money is not all spent them it could be lost next year.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also announced that 27 February and 3 April will be the second check dates for the Extensification Payment Scheme.
