REACTION to proposed changes to the rules governing sheep and suckler cow quotas are being sought in a consultation document released by the ministry this week.
The first of the two main proposals would remove the boundary between less favoured areas and lowlands and create a single ring-fenced area for England and a separate one for Wales.
This would largely eliminate non-payment to producers holding quota, and simplify quota trading. LFA entitlement would not be affected.
The second proposal would amend the eligibility of producers who take over land from which quota has been removed by a departing tenant or sharefarmer.
