Store go-ahead

WORK is due to start on a new 50,000t grain store at Didcot, Oxon, later this year, following a protracted battle over planning permission.

The facility – one of the largest in recent years – will be managed for Oxfordshire Grain by farmer-owned business SCATS, which already runs 112,000t of storage for Hampshire Grain, Wiltshire Grain and Weald Granary. It hopes to have half the new store completed in time for next harvest.

"The announcement is timely, as farmers are having more problems than ever before in getting grain moved this harvest," says SCATS grain development manager Rob Sanderson.
