Strength in unity

STRENGTHENING producers hand in the market-place can only be achieved by the different milk groups uniting, claims the NFU.

After Milk Marques annual meeting in Stratford on Tuesday, Michael Lambert, NFU milk committee chairman, said meetings would now be taking place to see how, and if, the various groups across the country could unite to push up milk prices.

"Producers have got to be stronger, and reducing the number of groups would strengthen their position and make them better organised," he said.

Talks between Milk Marque and the individual dairy companies are now taking place, after the recent collapse of the selling system. Mr Lambert warned producers not to panic and said he hoped something meaningful would emerge in the next couple of weeks. &#42
