SULPHURIC acid is an inorganic acid and has been very popular due to its competitive price, says Dr Keady. It is normally applied at the same rate as formic acid.

"There is plenty of evidence to indicate that it improves fermentation, but none to show treatment with sulphuric acid, relative to untreated silage, improves animal performance as measured by carcass gain in beef cattle or milk fat and protein yields in dairy cows."
