Summer feed is timely for turnout
A NEW summer dairy feed will be available to Scottish farmers from Monday to coincide with the traditional date for turnout. It comes from KW Alternative Feeds and will cost between £93-£99/t depending on the size of order.
Peter Hill, the firms regional manager in Scotland, says Scotfeed uses the by-product of the flour industry to manufacture a 6mm pellet with added protein, sugar as molasses, plus vitamins and minerals, to give a wheat-based summer dairy feed that will complement grazed grass.
At 16% protein and 12.3 ME, Mr Hill says the feed is being made by KW alongside flour at the Chancelot Mill at Leith owned by cousin company Allied Mills. That cuts haulage costs and the savings are being passed on to farmers, he adds.
The new feed is being kept to Scotland and the north of England for this season but could be sold further south in the future. (01313-130090).
