SEND us a postcard from the farm, we said to young readers who wanted to win our latest toy from Britains – a 1:32 scale model Kemper Champion 300 rotary header with a Claas forage harvester (worth about £16.50).

The sort of "postcard" we had in mind was a picture about A4-size (29cm x 21cm) in paints or crayons – just so long as they were strong, clear colours – showing the farms on which contestants live or have a special interest in, and the activity going on there during August.

The result was a heavy postbag of super pictures. We received so many in fact, that when judging day came, we had to use most of the office floor leaving little gaps through which the judges could make their way.

Age was taken into account when choosing the winners as the contest was open to those aged five years and over but less than 12 on the closing date. The 30 sets of toys we were giving away were awarded to the children whose names are listed on this page.

Space does not permit us to publish all their "postcards", but five are reproduced here to give you an idea of the standard.

We hope to display more of the best entries at Smithfield FarmTech (Earls Court 2, London, Nov 26-28).
