Sweeteners for flax growers
A NORFOLK-BASED farm merchant has given 30 Scottish flax growers a £100/ha early payment sweetener as a demonstration of its goodwill.
Gorham & Bateson is also altering its 1999 payment schedule to improve the cashflow for its suppliers.
The early payment is designed to make up for delays in payments from the UK Agricultural Intervention Board which are not expected until May or June.
Andrew Flux, the companys marketing manager, reports a keen interest in flax which can be used for fibre or oil production as well as whole crop forage.
