Tesco consultants to take evidence
from farmers on beef profits
LONDON Economics – the consultancy group hired by Tesco to investigate where the profits are going in the beef industry – will now take independent information from farmers and processors.
Its brief is to examine the economic pressure on beef prices and assess the impact of that on margins throughout the supply chain. Its report is expected to be made available to the public later this year.
During the farmer demonstrations at Christmas, livestock producers accused Tescos and other supermarkets of profiteering out of the industry at their expense.
