Tesco denies profiteering from meat
TESCO has launched an attack on claims that it has been profiteering from sales of meat.
Martin Cooke, strategic technical and development manager for the group, told delegates at a conference that Tesco “made little or no profit on red meat sales”.
And he rebutted claims that the company was determined to pay as little as possible for its fresh meat.
Mr Cooke rejected suggestions that supermarkets should source fresh meat only from the UK.
He told delegates at the second Langford food industry conference that buying only British would deny customers choice.
