Tesco sees festive sales soar

TESCO grabbed an even bigger share of the retail market over the festive period, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The company revealed a like-for-like increase in sales of 6.9% for the seven weeks ending 07 January. Group sales jumped 15.4% over the same period.

However, the boost was helped by a record rise in non-food lines such as DVD players.

Tescos buoyant performance contrasts with Sainsbury which showed almost no profit for third quarter like-for-like sales which were only ahead by 0.4%.
