IN the run up to this years show there has been a mixture of good and bad news for the organisers.

The good news is that the Royal Bank of Scotland pledged about £500,000 worth of sponsorship over four years to take the show into the next millennium.

The bad news is that an application for more than £4m to the millennium fund has been turned down.

The money was sought to help finance a major development of the Ingliston show site to include a new exhibition hall, new grandstand, and to improve general facilities.

"It will just take us a little longer to raise the money ourselves and get the work done," said chief executive Hywel Davies.

Millennium money or not – there will be no brake on livestock competition entries at this years Highland Show.
