Time of floods and drought

FLASH floods and thunderstorms affected parts of England this week, but in Lincs and Yorks farmers are facing spray irrigation restrictions.

The National Rivers Authority has told Yorks farmer abstracters to stop abstracting river water from affected areas. Sue Slack, NRA technical manager, said: "Rainfall has been well below average over the past three months, and our rivers and streams are showing the effects."

In the East Anglian region below average rainfall for April-June has affected rivers in clay catchment areas.
