Time to turn the clock back?

A HIGHLAND farmer and councillor believes he has the solution to the woes of modern farming – just turn the clock back.

Stuart Black told a Cairngorms Biodiversity Action Plan meeting that farmers should return to 1960s-style crop rotation.

He suggested growing grain at 1000ft (300m) and making hay instead of silage for the benefit of wildlife.

Mr Black said it was time to forget about set-aside and instead pay producers who farmed for the benefit of wildlife.
