TIP OF THE WEEK

Have you a tip to share with our readers which could save both time and money? farmers weeklys Machinery desk is offering £50 for each idea we publish.

This weeks Tip of the Week comes from George Duncan, from near West Calder, West Lothian, who, like many stock farmers, has struggled over the years to transfer feed from one bag to another.

"Most of it ends up on the floor and, try as you might, there is always an element of wastage that cannot be afforded," he says.

Mr Duncans solution has been to find a plastic bucket – the bigger the better – and carefully cut the bottom out of it so it becomes a funnel.

"Place the bottomless bucket into the bag to be filled and away you go," he says. "No spillage, the job becomes so much easier and there is no wastage."

Have you a tip to share with our readers which could save both time and money? It could be a simple device which you have used for years, or one of those instant brainwave solutions to a problem that has been niggling away.
