Too-dry silage can be sterilised

PRODUCERS can now sterilise fermented whole-crop forage that has been made too dry with a new ruminant feed, Rescue 75, claims Lancashire feed supplier Dugdales.

Rescue 75 contains energy and protein sources and an ammonia precursor to sterilise and stabilise the clamp face, reducing spoilage and mould growth prior to feeding out, it says.

The product can be applied by sprinkling it onto the clamp face or mixing with the forage in complete feeding systems.

It costs £3.42 a day for a 100- cow herd when applied to the clamp face or 6.4p/cow a day in complete feeding systems (01200-27211).
