Torrential rains hit French farming

TORRENTIAL rains which hit the south-west of France earlier this week have delivered a blow to the regions agriculture.

The Financial Times reports that the Perpignan area, which supplies a large part of the French lettuce market, has lost over 50% of production.

Up to a third of the 90,000ha (222,386 acres) of vines in the Aude, including the Corbieres region, has been damaged, and 1500ha (3706 acres) completely destroyed.
