Tougher rules on moving animals
THE government is introducing new restrictions on farmers transporting animals short distances, in spite of its pledge to reduce red tape, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Under the new rules, farmers and transporters will no longer be exempt from the controls regulating shorter journeys.
Livestock farming representatives were summoned to a meeting at the ministry of agriculture last Friday to discuss the new restrictions.
The National Farmers Union is reported expressing concern about the change at a time when the government said it would review bureaucracy in the industry.
