Tractor protest to London

TWO farming organisations have chosen very different ways to express their dissatisfaction with the government response to the farming crisis.

National Farmers Union president Ben Gill will embark on a series of speaking engagements across the country over the next few days.

He will address groups, including a school, a farm club and a debating society, telling them that time is running out for the government to throw a short-term aid lifeline to farmers.

He will say that the future for many farmers relies on the government applying for EU agrimoney compensation to offset the strong Pound and BSE-related costs.

Meanwhile, on Sunday (5 March) Small and Family Farms Alliance leader Michael Hart will set out on his tractor from Truro, Cornwall, on a 300-mile journey to London.

He plans to arrive at the Houses of Parliament next Wednesday (8 March) morning, where he will deliver a message criticising the government for not doing more to help farmers.

Mr Hart invites other farmers to join him en route to London and calls for the family farming community to gather outside Parliament for his arrival.
