Trial for French burger-protest farmer
THE French farmer who became a national hero by leading an attack on a McDonalds burger restaurant has been ordered to stand trial for the offence.
Jose Bove, leader of the small farmers union, was told he would face charges along with nine associates.
They are accused of demolishing a McDonalds restaurant under construction in the southern town of Millau last August.
Bove has become the popular figurehead for resistance to industrialised food production and the supposed ravages of US commercial power.
