Trigger time is close
GOOD crop progress, boosted by rain in most regions, has brought potato crops closer to the trigger time for their first anti-blight sprays.
In Lincolnshire, for example, maincrops vary from 20% emergence to more advanced plantings showing 15-20cm (6-8in) haulm growth. But in most situations crops are not at a stage to justify their first application of blight spray, reports Ciba Agriculture.
In the meantime, controlling volunteers and infected plants on dumps is a priority, it adds. *
