Twin-win for Saucy cow

A COW imported from Canada a year ago has added the National Holstein Show supreme champion title to last years reserve championship and winning the Cow of the Century at DairyScot.

Excaliber Saucy Skychief, sired by Donnandale Skychief, also took the shows Best Udder award. Her owner Liz Wolfenden of Longford Hall, Derbys, bought the cow on a trip to Canada and imported her last February.

Judge Callum McKiven from Melbourne, Canada, described the supreme champion as a well balanced cow. "There is no denying this cow is a champion and the best cow on the day," he said.

He chose the four year old cow above Co Down breeder Sam McCormicks Medway Supreme Maude, sired by Startmore Supreme, which he placed reserve. This reserve cow was tremendous through the top line and frame, he said.

Mr McKiven described the quality of cows shown as tremendous. "I was first here eight years ago, and I cannot believe the improvement, especially in youngstock. This is a good sign for the future."
