UK plans to label GM products

THE government plans to enforce the labelling of all genetically-modified (GM) additives and flavourings contained in food served in public outlets.

The new rules will cover restaurants, canteens, schools, hospitals and even railway buffets.

Junior agriculture minister Baroness Hayman confirmed she was urging the European Union to introduce new regulations to cover these items.

Her views emerged as restaurants appeared to be in disarray over new rules governing the labelling of food containing GM soya and maize, says The Times.
