UK wool price slumps

VOLATILE trading conditions in the international market have led to UK wool prices slipping from a peak of 133p/kg in March l995 to a current low of 106p/kg.

As a result, wool cheques for the year will be down to an average 95p/kg, warns the British Wool Marketing Boards annual report.

Operating costs fell from 18.5p/ kg to 16.8p/kg. A greater fall had been budgeted for, but poor clearances early in the year resulted in higher than anticipated finance and storage charges. &#42
