Union sees no conflict
THE NFU claims there is no conflict between its interests and those of the Countryside Movement.
David Evans, NFU director-general and Countryside Movement director, said the NFU was prepared to work with it to achieve the objectives set out in the movements charter.
"There doesnt have to be a conflict," said Mr Evans.
An NFU statement said the movement "is expressing a commitment to a range of principles and objectives central to the NFU agenda for many years".
But NFU council member Hugh Oliver Bellasis said he believed the countryside as a whole needed a single voice.
"I am delighted that an organisation which will represent all the aspects of countryside life and living is being formed and I dont see a conflict with the specific interests of other groups," he added.
