Unmatchable fruits of a true British summer

THERE is nothing more evocative of summer than luscious ripe British fruit. The smell is wonderful, the taste is wonderful and as the season opens, berries and stone fruit are best feasted on fresh.

However, to make the most of such delightful fruit as the season progresses, take a look at a superb new book*. Produced by National Summer Fruits in association with Marks & Spencer, it is full of tempting recipes by Clare Ferguson, illustrated with pictures to drool over.

Serve delicate strawberry, parma ham and mint open sandwiches as appetisers at summer parties and give chicken a zing with strawberry and chilli salsa. Indulge in heavenly raspberry brûlée, or blackcurrant sorbet and delight everyone with blackberry, orange and nut muffins. Produce your own cherry and almond icecream for a cool treat, or make plum and cinnamon jam to bring back a taste of summer in the depth of winter.

If you love fruit this book will help you make the most of each seasonal crop. The only disappointment is that M&S will not be selling it in their stores – what a marketing opportunity missed. TG
