USA bans Belgian beef
THE USA is banning Belgian beef due to concerns about bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
An interim ban had been in place for almost two years after BSE was discovered in a Belgian cow.
The animal and plant health inspection service at the US Department of Agriculture has now decided to adopt this as a final rule.
The ban prohibits the import of Belgian cattle and meat, meat products, and certain other products of ruminants that have been in Belgium.
