USrationing is route to yield

DAIRY producers keen to improve how they feed their high yielding cows may be interested in using a US rationing system.

The Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein rationing system (CNCPS) is used to feed the Elite cows at ADAS Bridgets research centre, Martyr Worthy, Hants, and on several high yielding dairy farms in the UK.

It allows a better description of energy and protein supply of individual nutrients, their availability to rumen bugs, and digestibility in the small intestine, says Rosemary Mansbridge.

A database at Bridgets now contains analytical results on UK forages and raw materials that are needed to run the Cornell programme. This information is available free to all farmers keen to use the programme, according to Miss Mansbridge.
