Usual late start to harvest

HARVEST started on Tuesday (14 August) for Ian Brown, who farms at Rennington near Alnwick. “Weve got late land in a late part of the country so are quite used to this.”

They tried some headland of Jewel feed barley at over 20% moisture. The farm has heavy soil and he says crops take time to ripen. He needs to have combined barley by next week so oilseed rape can be drilled for next year.

There is oilseed rape, wheat and beans still to be combined on the farm.
