Oilseed rape has been very variable at Peter Wombwell’s Rectory Farm, Saffron Walden, Essex, ranging from 2.5-4.3t/ha (1-1.75t/acre).

“We had a phenomenal amount of pigeon damage and the flowering period wasn’t that long,” he said. “I should think we averaged about 3.3t/ha (1.3t/acre).” With 61ha (150 acres) of Castille he had just one field left to complete today (28 July).

“We shall be into the 20ha (50 acres) of Profit peas later today, which look very well, and then start nibbling at Cordiale second wheat.”
