Vietnam curbs rice exports
VIETNAM has capped rice exports for the second quarter at 1.5 million tonnes because of fears over food security as the south enters serious drought.
The communist-run country is the worlds largest exporter and sold 3.6m tonnes of rice abroad last year. It plans to export 4m tonnes this year.
But an agriculture ministry official said contracts that had already been signed with international buyers would be honoured. The idea was to “temporarily suspend” planned signings.
