VSO escape route from UK farming


MORE and more agriculturalists are setting their sights on voluntary work overseas as a way to escape the farming crisis in Britain.

Applications from agriculturalists to the Voluntary Services Overseas organisation have more than doubled in the past four years.

VSO placement advisor Kirsten Johnston told the Radio 4 Farming Today programme said a lot of agriculturalists felt their career options were restricted in this country.

Many hoped they could learn new skills overseas which they could then use when they returned home.

But she warned that, at the end of the day, people must have positive reasons for going.
