Walston welcomes GM breeders

OLIVER Walston, the self-styled cereal baron and broadcaster, is making a characteristically combative stand with an invitation for plant breeders to grow genetically modified (GM) crops on his land.

He says he is making the offer in defiance of what he terms “mob rule” by environmental activists, in an article in The Daily Telegraph.

The threat of disruption by environmentalists has recently prompted Cambridgeshire-based CBP Twyford to halt work on GM crops trials.
