Warm cheerio to Tanner…

A STANDING ovation was among the tributes paid to retiring NFYFC chief executive and treasurer Tanner Shields who was elected an honourary life member at the annual meeting.

Tanner (real name Francis Edward, contracted to Franner by his little sister later to become Tanner, explained Liz Harvey, the Devon member who proposed his life membership) retires from this summer after 27 years with NFYFC. A former member of South Brent YFC, Devon, Tanner worked for Devon County Federation be- fore moving to the national federation.

"The movement is lucky to have someone like Tanner," said Chris French of the board of management who described him as "an absolute dynamo".

A farewell party will be held on Aug 10 on the Great York-shire Showground, Harrogate. Tanners Final Fling, as it is dubbed, will begin with a tea party to be followed by a ball with band and disco and entertainment. Inquiries: (01203-696544).
