Warning on dairy investment
INVESTMENT is desperately needed in the dairy sector before it is invaded by overseas competitors, delegates were told at the British Dairy Farmers conference at Malvern.
Dairy products have a market value of about £6 billion a year, but its marketing budget remains a paltry £2m, or 0.01% of sales.
Marketing consultant Bryan Fimm told delegates that the proposed £10m-a-year generic advertising campaign would increase liquid milk sales by 135m litres a year.
