Watch out for sparkly spuds!

FARMERS in the 21st Century could be growing “smart plants”, according to a presentation at the British Association of Science festival in Sheffield yesterday.

Producers could grow fluorescent potatoes and glowing wheat which would change colour when a field needs watering.

Farmers could also be driving farm equipment on paths determined by satellites orbiting the earth.

But it was predicted that fewer people would be working on farms.
