We will help rural areas – Prescott

by FWi staff

DEPUTY prime minister John Prescott has restated the governments pledge that it is determined to help rural areas thrive.

Mr Prescott was speaking at the official opening of an extension to the Dales Countryside Museum in North Yorkshire.

Government measures were helping to build thriving local communities and a living countryside, he said.

Our policies are having a real impact on people in rural areas by improving their quality of life.

There is a clear vision for the countryside across Government and we are determined to make rural areas thrive, contributing to national prosperity.

He promised the Rural White Paper would set out a wide range of policies to assist rural communities and protect the countryside.

The government had already saved rural shops and post offices by introducing 50% tax relief and injecting 170 million into rural transport, said Mr Prescott.
