Weather and StarLink worries for US grains

  • US worries over weather and StarLink

THE cold US winter forecast could hurt Oklahomas vulnerable hard red winter wheat crop. Wet conditions over October delayed plantings, and concerns have mounted that 40% of the crop may be unable to cope with winter stress.

Ongoing concerns with StarLink continued and rumours of Chinese maize export sales also pressured prices. Both wheat and maize CBOT futures ended around $1 lower over the week.

  • Canada forecasts wheat crop

Stats Canada put Canadas 2000 wheat crop at 26.8 million tonnes, close to last years 26.9m. Within the total, non-durum output was down 1.5m tonnes at 19.4m.

Durum wheat output was a record 5.6m tonnes.
