Weather closes in on Wiltshire

WITH some farmers combining in Wiltshire on Saturday (11 August), misty rain on Sunday ruined any chance of good progress.

Wiltshire Grains Nick Brown says 85% of winter barley has been combined and there is still more oilseed rape to be cut. A small proportion of wheat has been combined.

“Farmers are starting to get worried about the weather. But the wheat Hagbergs from samples are still high, so I think it just isnt fit.”

He says harvest is not far behind usual progress. “But farmers think they will have to re-start by next weekend, whether its dry or wet.”
