Welsh Black makes 5800gns

A BULL sold for 5800gns at the Welsh Black Cattle Societys show and sale at Dolgellau last week.

It came from breeder T W Williams locally-based Caerynwch herd. Sired by Brysgaga Seraff 26th and out of a dam by Caerynwch Erddyn 3rd, he was bought by Cornish breeders J R and S Alford from Bodmin.

The days reserve champion, Coedllys Xavier from Mr and Mrs Williams, Ponterwyd, near Aberystwyth, sold for 4700gns. This son of Neuadd Addewid 49th went to Robin Price, Bala.

The champion, Hywel M Jenkins Neuadd Addewid 71st, made 2300gns to Emyr Jones, Bala. And an identical bid secured Hafodesgob Llywelyn 4th, a Cader Rhidian son from Mrs Gwenfair Jones and Sons taken by Hywel M Jenkins.

Competitive bidding took female prices to 1600gns for the maiden heifer Graig-Goch Aelwen 14th consigned by Emyr Jones, Nebo, Llanrwst. This Cascob Dafydd daughter was chased all the way by representatives of the University of Aberystwyth who are securing foundation stock for a new herd.

The university was successful in buying the champion maiden heifer Ysguboriau Dwynwen 67th from R Jones, Tywyn, for 860gns.

The overall female championship went to the in-calf heifer Waedog Ffion 39th from William Jones, Bala. She realised 1120gns to Mr and Mrs D &#42 Griffith, Corwen.
