Welsh NFUpledge for mutual stand

THE Welsh NFU has admitted that it must improve its identity in the principality, but it remains fully committed to the principle of a single union for England and Wales.

John Lloyd-Jones, NFU Welsh surgery chairman, said he believed very strongly that farmers in England and Wales gained mutual benefits by standing together – especially when so much farm policy was now decided in Brussels.

Mr Lloyd-Jones said that although most farm support came via the CAP, domestic support was becoming increasingly targeted.

"That emphasis will grow irrespective of whether we get devolution or not. We must have a strong Welsh identity but we must not break the bond with England."
