West Country first calvers in plenty

WEST country dairy farmers have had plenty of stock to choose from in a spate of sales which have seen commercial first-calvers sell to 1110gns.

This was paid when Messrs &#42 K and P Lawrence dispersed the milking and in-calf heifer portion of their herd at Andrewshayes Farm, Dalwood, Axminster.

The money secured an Aerostar daughter for Mr Strawbridge, Honiton.

Autumn calving heifers by Lincoln reached 690gns and recently-served heifers by Aerostar and Clyde peaked at 570gns. The 46 cows levelled at £651.

The spring calvers from Mr and Mrs A F Brantons herd at Uplowman, Tiverton met a fast trade with a 1050gns top price paid by E Derham, Exeter for a freshly-calved heifer by Dinnaton Courtney. The 43 cows and heifers averaged £829. (Stags)
